Plastic Welder Certifications

Throughout Italy, also at your location.

Certification of welders according to UNI 9737 and UNI EN 13067 for permanent joints of pipes, fittings, sheets, and membranes with the following processes:

  • Thermal butt welding
  • Electrofusion welding
  • Hot air welding
  • Extrusion welding
  • Solvent welding

Certification is obtained by passing a theoretical and practical examination, which attests to the skills in a specific process and for a given material group, as defined by the reference standards.

It is also possible to take the exam in English.

FAQ

My certificate is expiring, what should I do?

From the start date of validity, the Certificate is valid for two years, at the end of which it will be possible to obtain an extension for the following two-year period by undergoing a documentary process. Documentary process means the production of documentation suitable for attesting the continuity and quality of the welder's work activity (during this period, the welder must carry out their activity continuously, with suspensions not exceeding 6 months). The validity of the certificate may be extended upon request for the subsequent 2 years.

At the end of 4 years, the Certificate will automatically expire, making it necessary, to maintain the welder's qualification, for a possible new course with the duration required by the respective qualification and the consequent theoretical-practical examination.

If the exam is passed, what document attests to the qualification obtained?

The welder who passes both the theoretical and practical exam obtains a qualification certificate, issued by TTR, an Accredited Certifying Body UNI CEI EN ISO/IEC 17024, containing the information indicated in the standard itself.

What happens if the exam is not passed?

The candidate will have to attend a training course at a recognized center before taking a new qualification exam.

What does the qualification test consist of?

Theoretical test:

The welder will have to demonstrate a sufficient degree of knowledge by answering a multiple-choice questionnaire. Passing this test is determined by at least 80% correct answers.

Practical test:

The welder will have to be able to weld correctly, according to current regulations, the test sample referred to the reference group and subgroup. The sample will then be subjected to destructive tests at an Accredited UNI CEI EN ISO/IEC 17025 testing laboratory.

How is the qualification range of the certificate defined?

The certificate is issued based on the Welded Material Group (e.g., PVC, PP, PE, PVDF). The Subgroup code is then indicated, which represents the shape of the welded object (membranes, sheets, pipes, fittings), the welding techniques (hot air welding, solvent welding, electrofusion, thermal element welding, extrusion welding), and the working fields (thicknesses, diameters).

What do UNI 9737:2021 and EN 13067:2020 standards refer to?

The standards refer to the classification and qualification of plastic welders. In particular, the standard establishes the procedures to be followed for the qualification of welders.

How to obtain qualification?

To obtain qualification according to UNI 9737 and EN 13067 standards, a theoretical and practical examination must be passed.

According to the regulations, access to the theoretical-practical examination is possible if one of the following requirements is met:

  • completion of an apprenticeship with a manufacturer of plastic components focusing on the welding processes to be qualified;
  • a formal declaration from the employer attesting to two years of experience in plastic welding;
  • attendance of a theoretical/practical training course at a Training Centre in preparation for the examination.
